Back in March, we posed early‑season questions about which Rockies (or Rockies‑related players) might earn a spot on the 2026 MLB All‑Star roster in Philadelphia, whether Hunter Goodman would repeat as an All‑Star, and which surprise players from across the league could make or miss the Midsummer Classic.
Sam Bradfield later championed Mickey Moniak, Antonio Senzatela and Goodman as potential All‑Stars throughout the season.
This week’s final roster releases capped off the fan‑voting process. As anticipated, the Rockies struggled in the league‑wide ballots. In the initial voting, only two Rockies cracked the top‑10 at their positions: Goodman (5th among catchers) and Troy Johnston (9th among designated hitters). Even then, they lagged far behind the positional leaders by hundreds of thousands of votes.
Phase Two voting left the National League roster dominated by the Dodgers, Braves and Phillies, with only one National and one Met breaking the pattern. Goodman failed to secure one of the top two catcher spots despite ranking first among NL catchers in home runs, total bases, runs scored, slugging and extra‑base hits, and second in hits and RBI. The final announcement, however, placed Goodman on the roster for a second consecutive All‑Star appearance.
The Rockies are among 12 clubs sending just one required representative. The Braves, Dodgers and Phillies lead MLB with five All‑Stars each, while the Yankees, Rays and Blue Jays follow in the American League with four apiece.
All‑Star Week also brings a wave of new faces. In the AL, 15 of 32 selections are first‑time participants, and the NL sees 11 newcomers out of 32. Players such as Nick Kurtz, Kevin McGonigle, Jordan Walker and Sal Stewart are among those making their debut appearances.
The rosters are not without intrigue. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. announced he will sit out the All‑Star Game, citing a desire to focus on his club and lingering back tightness. He’s posting a career‑low .699 OPS with only four home runs this season. Aaron Judge earned a starter spot despite missing time since early June due to injury. Returning veterans include Aroldis Chapman, Chris Sale, Mike Trout, Freddie Freeman, Bryce Harper and Shohei Ohtani, each earning another selection.
