3-Year-Old Boy Critically Injured After Stranger Allegedly Forces Him Into Crocodile Enclosure at UK Zoo]
A 3-year-old boy suffered critical injuries on Thursday after allegedly being forced into a crocodile enclosure at a zoo in England, with authorities arresting a 30-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder, police said.
The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. local time at Johnsons of Old Hurst, a family-operated zoo in Huntingdon near Cambridge, according to Cambridgeshire Police. The suspect, a 30-year-old man from Norfolk, was taken into custody.
Authorities have not yet determined whether the child was thrown into the enclosure or how many crocodiles were present.
The boy was transported to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge with serious injuries. Police confirmed his condition was critical but stable three hours after the attack.
“At this stage we are speaking to people who were at the zoo at the time of this distressing incident to understand more about the circumstances,” Detective Inspector Verity McCann of Cambridgeshire Police stated.
The hospital referred inquiries about the boy’s injuries to police, which declined to release further details while the investigation continues.
In a social media statement, the zoo expressed prayers for the boy and his family, adding that its Tropical House would remain closed indefinitely.
The zoo, which houses over 100 animals including crocodiles, lions, and tigers, noted it does not permit visitors under 16 without an adult, though 14- and 15-year-olds may accompany paying adults.
Ben Obese-Jecty, the area’s Member of Parliament, urged the public to avoid speculation online and await official updates.
