GUJARAT: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) announced that it has detained 46 individuals in the Gujranwala region over the past fortnight for their alleged involvement in human trafficking. Two passengers were also barred from departing at Sialkot International Airport after authorities discovered that they were attempting to travel on forged documents.
A spokesman for the FIA’s Gujranwala Zone noted that among the detainees were seven individuals classified as proclaimed offenders (POs). The arrested persons are accused of robbing victims of a cumulative Rs100 million, allegedly by promising them passage to several European countries, the United States, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia.
According to the official, most of the suspects were apprehended based on information supplied by deportees from Libya, while three of them were reportedly involved in illicit money‑transmission networks.
Regarding the two passengers who were prevented from traveling, the spokesman said that they had paid Rs5.6 million to agents for arranging counterfeit visas and other travel documents.
The spokesperson added that 18 suspects were seized by the FIA’s Gujranwala circle, with 14 each apprehended by the Gujrat and Sialkot circles.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to continuing operations against human trafficking networks throughout the Gujranwala region.
