49ers Sign Dante Pettis to Practice Squad to Address Receiver Injuries

The San Francisco 49ers have signed wide receiver Dante Pettis to their practice squad, according to multiple reports, including Jordan Schultz of The Schultz Report.

Pettis was among nine players who participated in a team workout on Tuesday as the 49ers look to bolster their depth.

The signing comes amid significant injuries to the 49ers’ wide receiver unit. Ricky Pearsall is out for the season, Christian Kirk remains on injured reserve, and both De’Zhaun Stribling and Demarcus Robinson have been dealing with injuries. Additionally, Mike Evans exited Sunday’s win over the Cardinals with a rib injury.

This move follows the 49ers adding veteran Brandin Cooks to their practice squad just last week.

Pettis, 30, originally entered the NFL with the 49ers as a second-round pick in 2018, recording 467 yards and five touchdowns in his rookie season. After being waived during the 2020 season, he has since played for the New York Giants, Chicago Bears, and New Orleans Saints.

In eight games with the Saints last season, Pettis made nine catches for 127 yards, providing valuable experience to the team’s receiving corps.
