First-year head coach Bob Chesney has received significant support throughout his debut season with the UCLA Bruins, and that backing intensified this week ahead of Chesney’s biggest contest to date. The team now faces No. 13 Oregon in a pivotal matchup offering a chance to remain undefeated for the season.
On Friday evening, acclaimed rapper 50 Cent took to his Instagram account to publicly voice his endorsement of Chesney and the Bruins.
“I’m going with UCL, Oregon is good but they ain’t beating UCLA by 12,” 50 Cent’s caption read.
The artist also shared a screenshot of an article from heavy.com by writer Lorenzo Reyna, which outlined how Chesney utilized the track “Many Men (Wish Death)” by 50 Cent as a motivational tool. The song remains one of the most popular pump-up anthems of the 21st century, embraced by athletes across the board.
Although few Big Ten programs are likely wishing anything severe upon Chesney or the UCLA program, a victory this Saturday could shift that dynamic. It would give the Bruins an opportunity to prove they are a genuine threat within the conference.
Born Curtis Jackson, the musician is known for crafting dramatic hip-hop tracks that have energized generations of athletes. Even 23 years after the track’s release, Chesney continues to give it a spin, an appreciation 50 Cent publicly acknowledged by betting on the Bruins to at least cover the spread in Week 6 against Oregon.
