Grizzlies Acquire Post via Strategic Offer Sheet Over Warriors’ Match
The Golden State Warriors will not match the three-year, $30 million offer sheet for reserve center Quinten Post, league sources told ESPN, allowing the restricted free agent to sign with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Post’s contract, while seemingly substantial, includes strategic financial maneuvers. Only the initial season is fully guaranteed at $9 million, with the Grizzlies embedding $1.35 million in conditional incentives. These penalties push the deal near the salary cap threshold, deterring matching teams like the projected tax-bound Warriors.
The final two years of the agreement value $8.5 million annually, each carrying $1.2 million in unlikely performance-based penalties. Neither subsequent season is guaranteed, mitigating risk for Memphis.

Post marks the first restricted free agent exceeding $5 million in value to depart via offer sheet since Bogdan Bogdanović’s move from the Sacramento Kings to Atlanta Hawks in 2020.
Drafted 52nd overall in 2024, Post evolved into a rotational staple for the Warriors during his rookie campaign, showcasing elite floor spacing as a center. He sank 73 three-pointers at a 41% clip in 42 games, though his accuracy dipped to 33.6% last season while maintaining 4.1 attempts per game in 17.3 minutes—a volume that highlights his value at the rim.
Defensively, Post improved significantly, with advanced metrics praising his two-way growth. This evolution spurred Grizzlies’ interest, overcoming Warriors’ efforts to retain him at a lower cost. Golden State extended a $2.6 million qualifying offer but balked at the $30 million sheet’s incentive-laden structure.
The Warriors have since reinforced their frontcourt via free agency, re-signing veterans Al Horford and Kristaps Porzingis. Post’s projected role behind both players—paired with the Grizzlies’ aggressive bid—cemented his decision to pursue the offer sheet.
