A 97‑year‑old woman rescued from flood‑stricken debris in Nepal is recuperating in hospital, her doctors say.

Her great‑nephew, Dipak Bohara, told BBC Nepali that she resembled ‘a warrior’ returning victorious from battle.

Extracting Bohara from the wreckage of her care home required a four‑hour operation.

Bohara journeyed from Kathmandu to assist in the rescue of his great‑aunt.

Hundreds have been confirmed dead following Wednesday’s flash floods, which scientists attribute to a glacier collapse in the Himalayan border area with Tibet.
