A trial opened on Tuesday of a British man charged with drugging and repeatedly raping his unconscious wife over two decades, along with twelve other men who allegedly conspired with him.
The suspect, a man in his 60s from Stockport in northern England, faces dozens of charges, including rape, sexual assault, and administering drugs to his wife without her knowledge. The alleged offenses span from 2004 to 2025, according to prosecutors, who have withheld his name to safeguard the victim’s identity.
British police took him into custody in 2025. He has since admitted guilt to 15 offenses: five counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault, six counts of assault by penetration, and one count of distributing intimate images or video. The remaining 33 charges will be adjudicated during the trial.
Twelve additional men are also facing trial for alleged crimes committed between 2023 and 2025. Nine of them have been charged with raping or sexually assaulting the woman, while all are accused of participating in a conspiracy to abuse or rape her.
The accused range in age from 28 to 73, hold a variety of occupations, and hail from different regions across Britain.
In a June press release, Greater Manchester Police characterized the investigation as involving alleged drug‑facilitated sexual abuse.
Prosecutors disclosed that a thirteenth man, Keith Fotheringham, 59, from Dundee, Scotland, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to rape and administer drugs to the victim without her consent.
The case is being heard at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court and is anticipated to proceed for three months.
