Mudryk transferred from Shakhtar to Chelsea in 2023 for an initial fee of £61 million.
After a strong showing in the 2022‑23 Champions League with Shakhtar, he needed adjustments to acclimate to an entirely different country and league framework.
Only arriving at his new club in October 2023 did he manage his first goal for Chelsea; by the conclusion of his inaugural full campaign at Anfield, the striker had added seven goals and four assists.
As the 2024‑25 season began, the appointment of Graham Potter was short‑lived. He was succeeded successively by Frank Lampard, then Maurizio Pochettino, and eventually Enzo Maresca.
During Maresca’s first term, Mudryk initially struggled with fixture congestion in the Premier League front‑runners, though he began making a visible impression in European outings—most notably a qualifying appearance for Ukraine ahead of the October 2024 international tie.
That match prompted a preliminary suspension after he submitted an adverse result concerning the banned substance meldonium.
The Football Association later imposed a maximum four‑year ban, prompting an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Notably, the dispute concluded with his restoration to playability effective 31 July 2026, once the FA confirmed the outcome of disciplinary proceedings and Mudryk accepted compliance with the imposed penalty.
Reflecting on the ordeal, Mudryk thanked supporters for accepting him, calling it “the toughest stretch” of his athletic trajectory.
His comeback will resume at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, just 11 miles northwest of the iconic ground where his earlier stint seemed precarious.
