The anonymous, cult-beloved South Korean shoegaze auteur known as Parannoul has been relatively quiet in 2026, releasing only the one-off track “연말 다짐 (New Year’s Resolutions)” in early January. However, the prolific artist continues to explore his more experimental outlets under various alter-egos, including Mydreamfever and Huremic. Following last year’s Seeking Darkness and the compilation track “3,” Huremic has now unveiled a brand new record titled No Dancing Allowed.
It’s difficult to categorize Huremic’s new project, No Dancing Allowed. Comprising three tracks, each stretching past the 10-minute mark, the release blurs the line between an album and an EP. The music itself is a transportive, percussive instrumental swirl of samples and guitars. While it avoids being abrasive even at its most extreme, blending seamlessly into the background, the closing track takes a sudden, unexpected turn into straight-up dance music.
According to the official Bandcamp description, Parannoul and Huremic recorded No Dancing Allowed live at the Sinchon nightclub Babydoll. The performance was a direct response to a controversial incident in Busan, where the club Ovangarde received a two-month business suspension after audience members were caught dancing during a show, violating long-standing local regulations:
On August 26, 2026, Busan live club Ovangarde received a two-month business suspension for an incident in which audience members danced during a performance. It violated a long-standing Korean regulation prohibiting dancing in ‘general restaurants’. This live album was performed at the live club Babydoll in Sinchon on August 30 Patchroom Festival, in response to the incident.
The album mixes various traditional Korean instruments, jangdan (traditional Korean rhythmic patterns), samples, and pon-chak disco (which was abandoned by younger generations), with contemporary weird music. Because I thought everyone liked to dance.
