Miley Cyrus Unveils New Single ‘Bass Persuades’ Ahead of Forthcoming Album

Miley has officially returned with her brand-new single, ‘Bass Persuades,’ marking a vibrant new chapter in her musical career. Listeners can stream the track below.

The pop star, who has recently dropped her surname ‘Cyrus’ for this new era, shared the title track from her highly anticipated tenth studio album on Friday, September 4.

“Let’s go,” she declares at the start of the music video, directed by Mert Alas, which transports viewers to a New York poker club pulsing with energetic dance-pop. “If we ain’t moving, baby, baby why are we here?” she sings over a throbbing ’80s-style synth line.

“And I don’t wanna change your mind/ The bass persuades/ No, I don’t wanna change your mind (Let’s go).”

In the chorus, the singer declares that “the kids don’t wanna dance“, adding: “We can’t stay like this forever/ Let’s surrender to the night, put our bodies close together, uh-huh.” The track is available to stream now:

Speaking about the follow-up to last year’s ‘Something Beautiful,’ Miley shared a statement detailing her creative vision: “My 10th studio album, ‘Bass Persuades’, arrives September 18th. Music takes hold of us. We feel it, sing it, sometimes dance to it, let it out and carry on. It is powerful, vulnerable, sweet and strong.

“Heart full, heartache, every part of life in between. That’s what the title means to me. Thank you for being a part of making my wildest dreams come true. I sincerely hope you love this album.”

The LP will mark the star’s first full-length project under her new label home, Atlantic Records.

Miley is set to celebrate the record’s release with two live performances at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on October 16 and 18. She’ll be joined by the musical duo Model/Actriz, and has described the iconic venue as “my favourite place to experience music and see my favourite artists”.

Tickets go on general sale at 10am local time on September 10. An American Express pre-sale begins at the same time on September 8, followed by the artist pre-sale the next day, September 9.

Miley previously stated last year that she had no “desire” to tour, explaining that embarking on extensive runs of concerts made it difficult to maintain her mental well-being.

“I do have the physical ability and I have the opportunities to tour,” she said at the time. “I wish I had the desire, but I don’t.”

In a four-star review of her previous album, NME wrote: “‘Something Beautiful’ is sprawling and apparently unperturbed by contemporary chart trends. While ‘Something Beautiful’ probably isn’t Cyrus’s most hit-packed album, it does feel like a fully realised artistic statement.”

Miley’s father, Billy Ray Cyrus, has shared his thoughts on his daughter dropping her surname for her next era.

In other news, Miley received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in May, where she committed to “continuing the cycle full of creation”.

Elsewhere, she recently shared a personal tribute to her godmother Dolly Parton, who passed away last month at the age of 80. Miley recalled that one of their final conversations had been about “music and metamorphosis”.

“What I KNOW is Dolly would want me to feel it, write a song about it, and then continue on and be strong,” she wrote. “I have an angel by my side. I always have.”
