Gallagher Brothers Skip Press Conference for New Oasis Documentary at Venice Film Festival

In a move that comes as little surprise to fans, Liam and Noel Gallagher were absent from the Venice Film Festival press conference for their forthcoming Disney+ documentary, “Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger,” on Saturday.

The estranged-turned-reunited brothers, who set aside a 15-year feud to launch their highly anticipated “Live ’25” tour last year, arrived at the Lido by boat, participated in the film’s official photocall, and promptly departed before the scheduled press event.

When asked about the Gallaghers’ notable absence during the presser, co-director Will Lovelace offered a brief response: “They were here a second ago having their photograph taken, so they are here.” He declined to provide further details regarding their decision to forgo the conference.

Representatives for both Oasis and Disney had not responded to Variety‘s request for comment at the time of publication.

Liam and Noel have remained notably reserved with the press since their reunion, with their joint interview for “Don’t Look Back in Anger” marking their first conversation together in two decades. The documentary, which received its world premiere at Venice on Saturday evening, is set for a theatrical release on September 11 before eventually streaming on Disney+ later this year. The film features rare footage of the band both backstage and during live performances.

The brothers’ absence may also have been a strategic move to avoid addressing speculation surrounding a potential new tour. Over the past two days, the band has been posting cryptic teasers across their social media platforms. Noel Gallagher also hinted at a possible 2027 tour during a recent interview with Talksport, remarking: “Let’s put it this way: there’s no football tournament on next year, so we’ve got to do something in the summer, right?”

In a separate interview with Variety, directors Southern and Lovelace shared insights into their approach to documenting the brothers’ reunion, revealing that they installed hidden cameras within the band’s rehearsal space.

“We didn’t want it to feel mediated. We didn’t want it to feel like there’s an annoying camera crew running around getting in their way,” Southern explained. “And we were aware of how sensitive it was, and that this was literally the first time they’d been in a room together for a prolonged period for 15 years.”

However, viewers should temper their expectations for emotional vulnerability from the Gallagher brothers. “It’s the Gallaghers, it’s not ‘Dawson’s Creek,'” Southern added. “They’re not gonna sit down and talk about their emotions.”
