Halloween: The Game Removes Controversial Sex Minigame Before Launch

The developers of Halloween: The Game have quietly removed a controversial sex minigame ahead of the title’s full release.

Based on the horror franchise, Halloween: The Game is set to launch this week (September 8) on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. The official description reads: “It’s Halloween night, 1978, the unsuspecting families of the quiet suburban town of Haddonfield are making holiday preparations, and evil has made its way home.” Players can team up in a 1v4 asymmetrical horror showdown, choosing to defend Haddonfield as a Hero or to stalk and terrorise residents as Michael Myers.

Those who pre‑ordered the deluxe edition gained early access and quickly discovered a sex minigame that let two players slip into a closet for NSFW interactions, granting temporary skill boosts to characters such as Lynda. However, the developers have since removed the minigame before the official launch.

The removal has frustrated some fans. One Reddit user complained, “Why did they remove it?! Me and my homeboy just wanna have sex in a closet and we can’t? Please add back the sex minigame.” Similar demands have appeared in Steam comments beneath the recent hotfix patch notes.

IllFonic explained in a statement shared with IGN: “Players may have noticed that our latest hotfix removed the Two‑Person Power‑Up minigame. This was due to an unintended issue that allowed end‑game reinforcement characters to engage with the minigame, which was a major oversight on our part.” The statement confirms fan speculation that the minigame was removed because characters such as Dr. Loomis—who is in his fifties during the game’s events and based on the late Donald Pleasence—could participate alongside the 17‑year‑old Lynda.

IllFonic added that further content and minigames are planned for the future, but the current focus remains on addressing immediate game needs. Updates will be posted on the studio’s social channels.

Last month it was confirmed that Halloween: The Game will not be released in New Zealand or Australia due to the presence of “a controlled substance”.
