August used to be a quiet month for Cameo as users waited for holiday and special occasions before ordering personalized videos from celebrities. The rise of fantasy football changed that pattern. By hiring famous personalities to announce draft picks, Cameo turned the fantasy season into its second‑busiest period after year‑end holidays, and the practice has become one of its fastest‑growing businesses.
Yahoo Fantasy has now joined the trend. The platform integrated Cameo directly into its interface, allowing league members to book a celebrity with a single tap. Once a video is ready, it can be watched inside Yahoo Fantasy. Jarrod Schwarz, Yahoo Sports general manager, described the arrangement as a “sponsorship integration” and said the partnership aims to deepen engagement among fantasy players.
The feature debuted on August 12 as Day 3 of Yahoo’s “29 Days of Fantasy” campaign, which marks the company’s 29th season with a new daily highlight each day. Schwarz emphasized that fantasy drafts are a powerful shared social experience. “We saw our fantasy football players doing this already,” he said. “We listened to their feedback, but we realized not everyone was aware or had recognition that this was a possibility.”
Turning Draft Day Into A Shared Experience
The integration simplifies the booking process, turning what can feel like a routine draft setup into a memorable moment. Schwarz noted that the feature is designed to make the draft more than just a procedural step, but a core memory for participants.
Access Can Lead to Complications

Greater access to athletes does, however, create challenges. A high‑profile example involves Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper, whose Cameo Thanksgiving greeting was later repurposed by FanDuel for a VIP promotion. The resulting lawsuit alleged that the sportsbook exploited a customer’s gambling addiction. Cameo’s compliance officer, Galanis, explained that the original request appeared to be a routine holiday greeting and therefore did not violate the platform’s rules. Cameo restricts content that includes nudity, violence, and hate speech, and it facilitates nearly 10 million videos while prioritizing the safety and comfort of talent.
“We want to make sure that our fans have an amazing experience, and we want to make sure that our talent feel very safe on the platform,” Galanis said. Protecting creators remains a core tenet of Cameo’s business model.
Beyond The Draft
For Yahoo Fantasy and Cameo, the draft‑order integration is just the start. Galanis shared a personal anecdote about using Cameo to clarify a disputed touchdown that eliminated his fantasy team from the playoffs. “That night, we booked Colby Parkinson for our league group chat to explain what happened on that touchdown,” he said. “…We were able to book the Cameo that night and get the answer from him that night.”
Both companies see opportunities throughout the season, including start‑or‑sit advice, reactions to big performances, trash‑talk exchanges, championship congratulations, and even celebrity roasts for the league’s last‑place team. The partnership is positioned to expand these interactions, turning routine fantasy moments into engaging, personality‑driven experiences.
