NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee Titans linebacker Cedric Gray has been placed in the NFL’s concussion protocol after being involved in a UTV accident in Tennessee over the weekend.
Gray was the driver of the vehicle and sustained a concussion along with minor injuries, the team announced on Monday. A source told ESPN that no alcohol or reckless driving was involved in the incident.
Gray led the Titans with 164 tackles last season after starting 16 games.
The concussion protocol requires a player to complete a multiphase return-to-participation program before being cleared to return to game action. Gray will undergo evaluation by an independent neurological consultant assigned to the Titans. Should the consultant concur with the team physician that Gray’s concussion has resolved, he could be cleared for return by Sunday, when the Titans open their season against the New York Jets at Nissan Stadium.
“We look forward to Cedric returning to the field soon and in full health when he clears the NFL’s concussion protocol,” the team said in its statement.
