[Katayama Reaffirms Tight Coordination on FX Policy Between Japan and the United States]
TOKYO, September 8: Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama stated that Tokyo and Washington maintain a united approach toward currency markets and will continue close communication to promote orderly foreign‑exchange movements.
“Our policy stance has remained unchanged since the coordinated monetary intervention in late July, and Tokyo stays alert as the yen has experienced a steep recent rally,” Katayama declared at a regular press briefing.
“Japan will keep engaging in tight dialogue with the U.S. Treasury to secure smooth market dynamics,” the minister added, noting her discussion with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent at recent Group of 20 sessions and other occasions.
Traders reacted to the yen’s jump to a seven‑month high by reshaping its valuation framework, driven by expectations of anticipated tighter Bank of Japan policy and rising confidence among Japanese investors to repatriate assets.
