LONDON, Sept 8 (Reuters) — On Tuesday, the United Kingdom released legislation aimed at strengthening sanctions against Iran. The bill broadens trade restrictions and enhances authorities to target vessels, forming part of a broader strategy to limit Tehran’s nuclear program and counter other adversarial activities.
The government stated that these measures will restrict Iran’s access to the British financial system, extend trade prohibitions to cover additional goods, technology, and services, and ban Iranian aircraft from landing in Britain unless specific exemptions are granted.
Stephen Doughty, a Foreign Office minister, stated in a written declaration that the legislation “doubles down on our action to constrain Iran’s nuclear ambitions” and will help ensure Iran never acquires a nuclear weapon.
Iran’s embassy in London did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
