Red Bull recruits Robin Raikkonen to Junior Driver Academy

Robin Raikkonen, son of 2007 Formula 1 world champion Kimi Raikkonen, has joined the Red Bull Junior Team.

Born on 27 January 2015, Raikkonen began karting in 2022. He competed in the Rotax Max Challenge, initially in Switzerland before expanding to European events, and also entered the WSK Super Master Series last season, both in age‑appropriate categories.

Kimi Raikkonen said in a press release, “We are thrilled and excited that Robin has been chosen to further his racing career as a member of the Red Bull Junior Team.”

He added, “Laurent and everyone else at Red Bull have been incredibly supportive throughout our discussions. They offer a compelling and comprehensive programme to develop and nurture Robin’s progress over the coming years and provide him with all the experience needed to develop his natural talent, which has been evident in his karting performances to date.”

He continued, “Red Bull’s Junior Team has a history of incredible success, with alumni such as Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen among many others. It is with great humility that Robin joins this illustrious programme, and he will dedicate all his efforts to live up to the trust that Red Bull is placing in him.”

Red Bull F1 team principal Laurent Mekies called Robin Raikkonen “one of the most promising young drivers” of his generation, noting that he “has already demonstrated exceptional ability in karting.”

Mekies praised the young Finn for his speed, racecraft, natural talent, maturity, calm approach, and clear focus on driving.

Our goal is to develop him step by step, without placing unnecessary pressure on his shoulders,” the Frenchman added. “The path in motorsport is long, and we will give him the time, support and resources he needs to maximise his potential.

Robin Raikkonen now counts among nine other drivers in the Red Bull Junior Team, which is led by Formula 2 championship leader Nikola Tsolov. Tsolov is considered a favourite for a Racing Bulls seat in the 2027 F1 season.
