ZAGREB, Croatia — A student at a high school in Croatia’s capital stabbed another student and a janitor on Friday, authorities said.
The attacker was detained. Croatia’s Ministry of Education said a sharp object was used in the assault.
The injured student underwent surgery for multiple stab wounds but was out of danger, according to authorities. The school employee sustained facial injuries.
The Index news portal reported that the incident followed an argument between the students on Thursday. Footage from the scene showed the school building cordoned off as police investigated.
In December 2024, a knife-wielding former student entered a Zagreb school and killed a 7-year-old girl, wounded three other children and injured their teacher. The attacker was convicted and sentenced to 50 years in prison. The incident prompted schools in Zagreb and elsewhere to hire guards to prevent unauthorized access.
