Mike Flanagan Debuts First Trailer for Upcoming Stephen King’s ‘Carrie’ TV Series

The inaugural trailer for Mike Flanagan’s television reimagining of Stephen King’s Carrie has officially arrived. You can view the footage below.

This new series represents the latest adaptation of the legendary horror novel, following four previous cinematic versions. These range from Brian De Palma’s seminal 1976 masterpiece to the 2013 remake featuring Chloë Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore.

Renowned horror director Mike Flanagan—known for his work on Life Of Chuck and Doctor Sleep—is now transitioning the story to the small screen. The series is scheduled to premiere on Prime on October 7.

Distinguishing itself from earlier adaptations, the trailer suggests a contemporary approach that integrates the complexities of the modern world, specifically highlighting how social media intensifies the persistent bullying faced by the protagonist.

Summer H. Howell stars as Carrie, supported by a cast including Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Joel Oulette, Josie Tota, Arthur Conti, Thalia Dudek, Amber Midthunder, and Matthew Lillard.

The announcement has already sparked debate among fans. While some question the necessity of yet another reboot, others are optimistic that the new direction will make the 1974 story more resonant for contemporary audiences.

Reflecting on the tone, one Instagram user noted, “I love how this trailer went for a more melancholic and mournful tone rather than a horror or supernatural thriller one, because at the core of it all, Carrie’s story was very sad and tragic after all.”

Another commenter expressed a balanced view: “On the one hand I was thinking, ‘Do we really need to remake EVERYTHING?’, but on the other hand its a generational story that is kind of valid whenever its shown. This looks like a good rendition that I’ll probably watch like the others.”

Supporting the remake, another fan remarked, “With each new generation, a new Carrie will always be important,” while another emphasized the desire for narrative accuracy: “All I ask for is a faithful adaptation of the novel. According to a synopsis provided by Empire: “Misfit high‑schooler Carrie White (Howell) has spent her life hidden away inside the walls of her home with her fiercely protective mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan). After her father’s sudden, untimely death thrusts her into the unforgiving ecosystem of public high school, Carrie is forced to navigate a viral bullying scandal that tears through her community, the relentless pressure and casual cruelty of the social‑media age, and the awakening of mysterious telekinetic powers that rise alongside her adolescence.”

The production has been in development since 2024.
