Dolly Parton, the celebrated American singer who died last month at 80, had been the focus of efforts to rename Nashville International Airport. Shortly after her passing, the airport and Governor Bill Lee announced that the proposal was advancing. The Nashville Airport Authority board has now unanimously approved the renaming.
Nashville’s News Channel 5 reports that the airport will retain its BNA code to honor Col. Harry S. Berry, a key figure in the airport’s founding as Berry Field in 1937, while the official name will become Dolly Parton International Airport. The Dollywood Foundation, established by Parton, is collaborating with the airport on integrating its operations.
Two additional Dolly Parton ventures—the SongTeller Hotel and the Life of Many Colors Museum—are slated to open in Nashville on September 29. The SongTeller Hotel will feature 245 rooms and two live‑music venues, Jolene’s and Parton’s Live, with the museum occupying the hotel’s third floor. These projects were already underway before Parton’s death, and earlier this year she recorded a guided tour for the museum. The hotel will also showcase a replica of the one‑room mountain cabin where she was born, echoing the design of her Dollywood theme park.
