Reports indicate that projectiles struck a vital oil pipeline network in Saudi Arabia on Thursday, resulting in fires at multiple pumping stations. CNN disclosed this information on Friday, referencing two US officials briefed on the incident, as initially reported by Anadolu.
An initial US evaluation determined that pumping stations adjacent to the East-West Pipeline sustained impacts. Satellite imagery revealed severe fire damage at one facility, while a distinct blaze generated substantial black smoke at a neighboring station.
US officials suggested that the pipeline was targeted by drones launched from Iraq. However, the identity of the perpetrators and the extent of physical damage to the pipeline remain uncertain.
Saudi authorities have yet to confirm whether the pipeline was struck or suffered any physical damage.
The East-West Pipeline transports crude oil from Saudi Arabia’s eastern production region to the Red Sea port of Yanbu, facilitating export routes that circumvent the Strait of Hormuz.
