Lancashire 211 for 3 (Jones 77) beat Yorkshire 210 (Winfield-Hill 90, F Morris 3-36) by seven wickets
Retiring duo Kate Cross and Fi Morris combined for five wickets as Lancashire bowled Yorkshire out for 210, securing a seven-wicket victory in the season-ending Metro Bank One-Day Cup clash at Headingley.
Yorkshire captain Lauren Winfield-Hill top-scored with an excellent 90 to guide her side to 179 for 4 in the 36th over, only for a dramatic collapse of six wickets for 31 to extinguish their hopes.
Former England seamer Cross returned outstanding figures of 2 for 54 from nine overs, while all-rounder Morris took 3 for 36 from ten. Morris was the standout in the Red Rose attack, allowing opener Eve Jones to anchor the chase with a resilient 77 off 97 balls.
Defending champions Lancashire, for whom Tilly Kesteven scored a brisk 47, and Tier 1 newcomers Yorkshire were both out of knockout contention prior to this fixture, with the visitors securing their eighth victory in 16 games.
After captain Ellie Threlkeld elected to field, Winfield-Hill aggressively drove and pulled sixes off Cross and left-arm swing bowler Tara Norris.
Cross then dismissed Rebecca Duckworth, and Norris had Jess Jonassen caught behind while driving, as Yorkshire slumped to 53 for 2 in the 15th over.
Winfield-Hill reached her half-century off 59 balls, but Sophie Morris’s off-spin trapped Sterre Kalis for 21 with the score on 95 in the 22nd over, also accounting for Erin Thomas.
Ami Campbell briefly stabilized the innings by lofting Cross for a huge six over midwicket and striking boundaries off the seamer, before falling caught at long-on for 26 with a loose stroke. The score then collapsed to 179 for 5 after 36 overs, sparking a decisive turnaround.
Fi Morris then bowled Sarah Glenn and had Beth Langston stumped. Sandwiched in between, Winfield-Hill offered a return catch to Norris.
Sophie Morris further dismantled the batting order by trapping Claudie Cooper lbw before Grace Potts wrapped up the innings by yorking Jess Woolston.
Yorkshire then needed early wickets but could not find them, as the left-hand and right-hand pairing of Jones and Gaby Lewis calmly advanced their side’s cause to avenge an April defeat at Emirates Old Trafford.
Lewis punished anything short on both sides of the wicket, while Jones pulled Langston over midwicket for six as the pair shared an 83-run partnership inside 17 overs.
Lewis departed for 25, bowled by leg-spinner Glenn’s second ball, before Jones reached her fifth fifty of the campaign, off 64 balls.
By this stage, a Yorkshire fightback seemed highly unlikely, even though Cooper’s off-spin bowled Jones to make it 132 for 2 in the 28th over.
After the match, Winfield-Hill presented Cross and Morris with bouquets of red and white roses in recognition of their distinguished careers.
However, with the focus somewhat on Lancashire’s rich past, youngster Kesteven gave a glimpse into their promising future. The left-hander drove nicely before pulling Hannah Rainey’s seam delivery to midwicket in sight of victory.
Threlkeld finished on 31 not out and hit the winning runs at the end of the 41st over.
