A light antitank weapon (LAW) was discovered in a residential complex in Ramle during a police sweep targeting illegal firearms on Thursday. Authorities are probing how the missile arrived at the location and its source, as reported by Walla.
One resident of the complex was detained for questioning. The operation drew personnel from the Special Patrol Unit, Central District Police intelligence, Sharon‑branch Border Police, and Ramla police.
Police stated that the seizure is part of a broader initiative to curb the flow of IDF‑issued weapons into criminal circles.
A senior police official told Walla after the LAW was seized: “Criminal groups are arming themselves at the IDF’s expense; we need to wake up.”
In a related raid in Lod, Shfela‑branch Border Police officers teamed with Lod police detectives, uncovering six magazines and hundreds of assorted ammunition rounds.
Officers detained a suspect on site for further questioning.
The two actions were conducted under the Central District Police task force, which targets crime hotspots and violent incidents within Arab communities.
Police explained that the measures involve locating illicit weapons and ammunition and stopping them from falling into criminal hands.
