Fatal Accident Claims Three Lives on Petronas FSO Vessel
- Three workers were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Three people lost their lives and one was injured during lifeboat maintenance work on the floating storage and offloading (FSO) vessel FSO Sepat, operated by Malaysian state energy company Petronas, on Sunday. The incident, which took place around 12:50 p.m. local time (0450 GMT), occurred off the coast of Terengganu on Malaysia’s east coast.
Petronas confirmed that the injured crew member was evacuated for treatment and remains under medical observation. Investigations into the cause of the incident are underway in cooperation with relevant authorities, the company said.
According to local police, workers had boarded a lifeboat on the platform to lower themselves into the sea for maintenance. The rope or hook attaching the lifeboat is believed to have detached, causing the workers to fall into the water.
Petronas did not provide further details at this time.
