Cowboys vs. Giants Prediction: Dallas’ Offense Ready to Take Control on Sunday Night Football

The Sunday Night Football schedule opens with an NFC East matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants. Both teams are looking to rebound from disappointing seasons, with Dallas finishing 7-9-1 and New York going 4-13.

The Giants overhauled their coaching staff, bringing in John Harbaugh as head coach, Matt Nagy as offensive coordinator and Dennard Wilson as defensive coordinator. However, such significant changes are unlikely to produce an immediate turnaround.

Continuity could be a major advantage for Dallas. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer returns with play-calling responsibilities, while Dak Prescott, Javonte Williams, CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens and Jake Ferguson are back as the foundation of the offense.

Dallas’ biggest concern is along the offensive line, where Tyler Smith was recently placed on injured reserve. His absence is a significant setback, but the Cowboys still have enough talent to move the ball effectively.

In 2025, Dallas averaged 0.421 points per play, ranking ninth in the NFL. The Cowboys also finished fifth in scoring at 27.7 points per game, helped by an offense that played at a strong tempo.

There is little reason to expect a major decline from that unit. The offensive line should remain capable enough, while Dallas continues to boast one of the league’s most talented groups of skill-position players.

The Giants, meanwhile, ranked 27th in the NFL in points allowed per play in 2025 at 0.417. They also surrendered 25.8 points per game last season.

New York’s new staff will bring substantial changes, but fixing a struggling roster in one offseason is a difficult task. Harbaugh also arrives from a Baltimore Ravens defense that was merely average in 2025.

Wilson comes from the Tennessee Titans, who allowed the fifth-most points in the league last season at 28.1 per game. He will be responsible for calling New York’s defensive plays in 2026.

Dallas’ starters had considerable success against the Giants in 2025, and there is little to suggest that dynamic will change. The Cowboys project as one of the NFL’s top offenses again, while New York does not yet look equipped to slow them down.
