Crystal Palace manager Pierre Sage faces intense scrutiny after a dismal start to the Premier League campaign.

Despite mounting pressure, Crystal Palace have decided against dismissing Sage and are prepared to grant him the necessary time to implement his tactical vision, according to Football Insider.

The Eagles have conceded 11 goals across their opening four league fixtures, raising significant concerns about their defensive structure.

A late defeat to Ipswich Town, trailing 3-2, highlighted these ongoing defensive vulnerabilities. Although the club acknowledges that Sage has faced challenging circumstances, the issues are becoming increasingly hard to overlook.

The summer departure of Maxence Lacroix created a substantial defensive void, which the club attempted to fill with loan signings Axel Disasi and Honest Ahanor.

Additionally, Sage had to navigate a disrupted pre-season, as several squad members were occupied with World Cup duties before returning to club action.

Crystal Palace must address defensive frailties

While the club remains patient with Sage, there is an underlying expectation that both results and performances must improve in the coming weeks.

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown believes Palace possess enough positive qualities to build upon, but he cautions that the defensive issues cannot persist indefinitely.

Crystal Palace displayed attacking promise in their win over Fulham, but regularly conceding two or three goals will severely hinder their ambitions this season.

Sage must urgently identify a solution and establish greater defensive stability.

For the time being, Crystal Palace are willing to stand by their manager. However, persistent defensive problems could intensify the pressure on Sage, especially if results do not improve.

The upcoming weeks will therefore be crucial for the Frenchman as he attempts to convince the Palace hierarchy that he can reverse the club’s fortunes.
