Real Madrid reinforced their attacking options this summer by signing Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig, but the 19-year-old winger has played fewer minutes than expected for a $135 million investment.
Manager Jose Mourinho says Diomande is facing intense competition in a squad filled with established stars operating at an elite level.
“Yan Diomande has all the qualities required. If he joined a squad with fewer high-potential players, he would almost certainly play all 90 minutes in every match,” Mourinho said. “Real Madrid have a strong squad with many options. Becoming an automatic starter here is extremely difficult.”

Mourinho is still working to identify his preferred starting XI at Real Madrid. With numerous attacking players available, securing regular starting minutes remains a challenge for the young winger.
