78th Primetime Emmy Awards: Complete Winners and Nominees Roundup

Kate O’Flynn claimed the first trophy of the evening at the 2026 Primetime Emmy Awards, held Monday night in Los Angeles.

O’Flynn took home the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in Widow’s Bay. Jean Smart earned her fifth consecutive Emmy for Hacks, bringing her career total to eight. Allison Janney also secured her eighth Emmy overall, winning Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for The Diplomat.

Matthew Rhys won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for the miniseries The Beast in Me. He was also nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Widow’s Bay. Rhea Seehorn earned the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Pluribus.

The 78th Annual Primetime Emmys are being broadcast live from the Peacock Theater and will stream on NBCUniversal’s Peacock platform beginning at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. Mariska Hargitay, a previous Emmy winner for Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, is hosting this year’s ceremony — a little more than a week after winning two statuettes at the Creative Arts Emmys for her documentary My Mom Jayne.

Hargitay opened the show with a performance of “I Love TV Screens,” set to the tune of Joan Jett’s “I Love Rock and Roll.” Hargitay noted that she is the first woman in 15 years to host the Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony.

Nominations for the 2026 Emmy Awards were announced on July 8, and the first statuettes were distributed at the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony on September 5 and 6 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The HBO Max medical drama The Pitt led all programs with 25 nominations and enters Monday night’s ceremony with four Creative Arts wins.

HBO Max’s comedy series Hacks earned the second-most nominations with 25 and captured one trophy at the Creative Arts ceremony, while Apple TV’s mystery comedy Widow’s Bay received the third-most nominations with 19. Widow’s Bay enters Monday night’s ceremony with a leading eight Creative Arts Emmys.

Prior to the 2026 Emmys, NBC, Peacock and other outlets streamed live coverage from the red carpet, featuring interviews and commentary on this year’s fashions. The ceremony also boasted a star-studded lineup of presenters, along with anniversary celebrations of classic shows and tributes to late television talent during the annual In Memoriam segment.
