Israel Railways announced on Monday that train services will operate on a special timetable for Yom Kippur.
On the eve of the holiday, Sunday, September 20, trains will run on an expanded schedule until 1:00 p.m.
During that period, Israel Railways will operate two trains per hour between Haifa and Tel Aviv, doubling the usual hourly service on the route.
After 1:00 p.m., regular train traffic will stop for the holiday, with service set to resume on Tuesday, September 22.
Israel Railways clarified that selected trains scheduled overnight between Monday and Tuesday will operate as usual.
The railway said reducing driver-dependent operations would help limit Shabbat violations associated with running the network, although security and operations staff would still be required on Fridays and Saturdays.
An NTA official emphasized that weekend rail service remains technically feasible, but that any final decision rests with the political leadership.
