Taylor Swift made a surprise appearance at the 2026 Emmys, joining Mariska Hargitay for a Law & Order: SVU sketch.
The 2026 ceremony took place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Monday, September 14, with Widow’s Bay, The Pitt, and DTF St Louis among the top winners.
Hargitay hosted the event, during which Swift appeared in a pre-taped segment.
In the sketch, Benson and her team worked to solve a pressing mystery: whether Swift would make a cameo at the Emmys.
“In order to crack a Swiftie case, you got to think like a Swiftie because the Swifties think that everything is a clue to what she’ll do next,” the host said, analyzing potential connections between the singer and the nominated shows before losing hope that there was enough evidence.

“Hey guys, this isn’t adding up,” another voice off-screen said, before the camera panned to Swift in a business suit. “Our perp has a clear M.O… A lot of this doesn’t fit the pattern, and I don’t think everything is a clue.”
“I think what we’re going to be looking for is hiding in plain sight,” Swift added, citing Taylor Swift-inspired evidence like “Saccharide. Aries. From the vineyard”.
As the case concluded, Benson declared that “Taylor Swift will not be at the Emmys”, but “maybe she’s going to do one of those cool pre-taped sketch things to support the host”.
Hargitay and Swift share a longstanding friendship, having previously collaborated on Swift’s 2015 ‘1989’ tour, in her 2014 ‘Bad Blood’ video, and at her 2024 ‘Eras Tour’. The two have even named their cats after each other—Swift named hers Olivia Benson, while Hargitay named hers Karma.
More recently, the pair watched the New York Knicks at the NBA Finals, and Hargitay attended Swift’s wedding to Travis Kelce in July.
Notable 2026 Emmys winners included Noah Wyle, who won Lead Actor in a Drama Series for The Pitt for the second consecutive year, beating out Paradise’s Sterling K. Brown, Slow Horses’ Gary Oldman, Task’s Mark Ruffalo, and The Diplomat’s Rufus Sewell.
Apple TV+’s Widow’s Bay also had a strong showing with 19 nominations, as lead actor Matthew Rhys made history by becoming the first person to win Emmys in two Lead Actor categories in the same year.
Hacks star Jean Smart also made history, winning Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for every season of the show’s run.
Swift released her latest album, ‘The Life of a Showgirl’, last year, inspired by her record-breaking ‘Eras’ tour. It became the UK’s best-selling album of the year, making her the first artist to achieve this feat in consecutive years since ABBA in 1977.
Since the album’s release, Swift became the youngest female artist inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, featured Graham Norton, Lewis Capaldi, and Cillian Murphy in her ‘Opalite’ video, and filed to trademark her voice and image due to AI concerns.
She also donated $26 million (£19.5 million) to 20 U.S. charities ahead of her marriage to Travis Kelce, and recently donated $50,000 (£37,000) to a GoFundMe for a mother hit by a car.
