Pol Espargaro to Ride for Tech3 at Austrian Grand Prix, Replacing Injured Maverick Vinales

Tech3 has announced that Pol Espargaro will substitute for the injured Maverick Vinales at the upcoming Austrian Grand Prix.

Vinales has been sidelined since his retirement during the German Grand Prix on July 12, missing subsequent events.

Espargaro, serving as KTM’s official test and reserve rider, will make his fourth consecutive appearance with Tech3 this season. He previously competed at Silverstone, Aragon, and Misano.

Beyond racing, Espargaro is collaborating with Dani Pedrosa on the development of KTM’s 850cc motorcycle for 2027 and was conducting tests at Mugello.

Vinales’ recovery has progressed slower than anticipated, with the Spaniard participating in only eight grands Prix and scoring points in four. Tech3 remains hopeful for his return when the championship reaches Japan.

Tech3 team manager Nicolas Goyon commented, “It means a lot to have Pol for our factory’s home race in Austria. Every time he gets on the bike, he looks more comfortable and competitive, and Misano was another positive step forward. We know we can count on his experience and professionalism, and we are looking forward to seeing him race in front of the ‘orange tide’ this weekend.”

Espargaro has secured points in two of the three races he has contested this season.

Goyon added, “At the same time, our priority remains supporting Maverick’s recovery, and we hope to have him back with us as soon as possible.”
