Takaaki Nakagami will race at the Austrian Grand Prix while Joan Mir continues his recovery.
Honda HRC Castrol has confirmed that Joan Mir will miss the Austrian Grand Prix, focusing on a full recovery ahead of the Japanese round. Development rider Takaaki Nakagami will fill the seat for the Spielberg weekend, ahead of his scheduled wildcard entry at his home Grand Prix in Motegi. The substitution provides Nakagami an additional opportunity to test the 1000cc machine during the post‑race session.
After withdrawing from the San Marino race, Mir traveled to Barcelona for comprehensive medical evaluation. Further tests have uncovered abnormal blood parameters that require additional investigation. Lacking a definitive diagnosis and considering the symptoms observed in Italy, Mir’s medical team has advised him to prioritize rest and continue medical assessments, resulting in his withdrawal from the Austrian event.
Nakagami, fresh from testing at Mugello, will step in for the Austrian round. The opportunity also allows him and HRC to gather further data on the 1000cc bike, supporting his preparations for the wildcard start at the Japanese Grand Prix.
