Nico Gonzalez Faces Potential Ban for Hull City Match Under FA Concussion Protocol

Newcastle United midfielder Nico Gonzalez may be ruled out of the upcoming fixture against Hull City due to regulations surrounding head injuries.

FA guidelines stipulate that a player who has sustained a concussion must not return to action until a minimum period has elapsed, and Gonzalez may not have met that requirement in time for Saturday’s match.

The midfielder suffered a blow to the head during Newcastle’s recent defeat to Leeds United and was substituted as a precaution over concussion concerns.

The Magpies are preparing to face Hull on Saturday at 3pm, but there remains a possibility that Gonzalez will not be cleared to play, as insufficient time may have passed since the initial incident.

“Yeah, with Nico, you know, as the manager, and also we as a club, have the responsibility,” manager Matthias Jaissle said, as quoted by Newcastle World.

“He had that knock-out feeling, as you all saw. We were also responsible enough to take him off the pitch, even though he looked fine then, but there are also some rules, especially for that occasion.

“Independent of how important he is, and how important it is to win the match. We’re all human beings as well, and we take that seriously, so therefore we made the decision to take him off the pitch.”

Gonzalez joined Newcastle from Manchester City in the summer and looks set to be a valuable acquisition for the Magpies.

The Spaniard would be a significant absence if he fails to return in time, with his role in midfield vital for Jaissle’s side following the departure of midfield duo Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali over the summer.
