BRUSSELS — Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Thursday accepted an invitation for Canada to become an “associate member” of the European Union, disregarding recent threats from U.S. President Donald Trump.
During an address to the European Parliament, delivered in both English and French, Carney strongly advocated for a deeper partnership between Canada and the European bloc, emphasizing the necessity of unity in response to adversarial policies emanating from Washington under Trump’s leadership.
