American Girl Introduces Daisy Davenport as 2027 Girl of the Year to Mark Brand’s Milestone

American Girl announced Daisy Davenport as its 2027 Girl of the Year doll on Thursday, celebrating the brand’s upcoming 40th anniversary. The 18-inch doll’s companion book, Daisy Davenport Saves the Day, was released alongside the character reveal that occurred in May.

In the story written by Megan Wagner Lloyd, Daisy’s summer plans at Camp Gowonagin with her best friend Callie shift when Callie sustains an injury requiring cancellation. Daisy learns resilience through solo camp adjustment, forming new friendships and conquering her fear of darkness.

Daisy hails from Madison, Wisconsin—the first Girl of the Year character from the Dairy State. American Girl was founded by Pleasant Rowland in Madison in 1986, with Mattel acquiring the brand in 1998.

Since 2001, each Girl of the Year doll represents “a contemporary character whose experiences, passions, and challenges reflect the world around them – inspiring confidence, individuality, and imagination for a new generation,” according to Mattel. Daisy features green eyes and long auburn-red hair with bangs, dressed in a purple T-shirt, dark blue pleated denim skort, purple tennis shoes, and striped socks.

Pamela Velarde, vice president and head of the American Girl brand, stated Daisy’s story “reflects the enduring spirit of American Girl while bringing a fresh perspective that feels relevant to girls today.” She added, “We’re thrilled to introduce a character who is confident and capable while navigating the uncertainty that comes with trying new things, building friendships, and growing into who you are.”

The Daisy Davenport collection includes the Camp Cabin, which sleeps two dolls with bunk beds, pillows, blankets, sleeping bags, and an outdoor vanity with a working mirror. Soccer enthusiasts can enjoy the Soccer & Team Spirit set featuring a uniform and net. The Campfire & Cozy Nights set offers pajamas, a s’mores kit, and a guitar for camp gatherings.

Mattel collaborated with experts including Laurie McMurray, former co-director of Camp Daggett’s Adventure Program, and Jackie Glascock, PhD, Chief Scientific Officer at Cure SMA. Sarah Bellish of Cure SMA’s Policy and Advocacy team contributed based on her experience attending summer camp for children with disabilities.

The Daisy Davenport doll, accessories, and story launch Thursday on the American Girl website and in stores nationwide, accompanied by Mattel Imagine YouTube programming featuring animated shorts and a stop-motion series set at Camp Gowonagin.
