One Piece Filler Guide: The Complete List of Skippable Episodes

Catching up on One Piece is a daunting yet worthwhile endeavor nearly twenty-seven years later, especially as the anime continues to evolve heading into the Final Saga. Now officially in the final leg of its story, the series is unveiling its most closely kept secrets, with the ultimate treasure barely within reach. Unlike peers such as Bleach or Naruto, One Piece boasts a significantly better ratio of canon to filler content. While pacing remains a separate issue, the dedicated filler arcs between major storylines are far less intrusive and easier to bypass. Notably, as the anime transitions to a seasonal release model, filler is becoming increasingly rare.

Overall, only 97 out of One Piece’s 1,157 numbered episodes are considered filler, making up just 8% of the series. While that percentage might seem slightly high, it pales in comparison to other major anime from the same era, with 45% of Bleach and 13% of Dragon Ball Z consisting of filler.

One Piece’s low filler percentage is likely due to Toei Animation incorporating smaller filler scenes into canon episodes to stretch the material. However, with the shift to a seasonal release schedule, filler episodes may soon become a thing of the past for the anime adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s beloved manga.

One Piece Filler Episodes That Are A Secret Treasure

One particular filler arc following Skypiea exceeded all expectations. Episodes 196–208 feature the Straw Hats landing the damaged Going Merry inside the impenetrable G-8 Marine base. After the ship is captured, many crew members go undercover as Marines to find a way to escape.

The G-8 filler arc is packed with standout moments for every Straw Hat member, from Sanji’s infectious cooking and Robin’s infiltration skills to Usopp’s lies and Luffy’s lack of subtlety. These elements create some of the series’ biggest laughs while telling a compelling cat-and-mouse story as the crew avoids total capture.

More Than A Few Of One Piece’s Filler Arcs Are Rough Sailing

Though One Piece undoubtedly has some strong filler arcs, several simply do not hold up. The Warship Island arc, for instance, features the typical hallmarks of a filler arc, including poor art and an uninteresting story that disrupts pacing by delaying the Straw Hats’ entrance to the Grand Line. It is also infamous for contradicting canon by introducing a dragon, whereas dragons were later established as myths. Most filler arcs fare little better; the Silver Mine and Cidre Guild arcs disrupt canon with mindless action that adds nothing to the overall narrative. The Cidre Guild arc is particularly notorious for this, given its placement at the beginning of the Wano arc.

Even more infamous are the Spa Island and Foxy’s Return arcs. Both are criticized for bringing back the incredibly divisive Foxy and doubling down on the traits fans disliked, making him less popular and fueling the misinterpretation that Foxy is non-canon to One Piece.

One Piece’s Filler Alternatives Hit A New Low In 2025

While filler episodes can be enjoyable, fans struggle to give recap episodes a pass, and frustrations grew in 2025 when five recap episodes frequently broke the momentum of the 33-episode batches. Lovable as the crew doctor is, viewers grew tired of Dr. Chopper’s Adventure Checkups. While necessary to free up time and resources for animators—especially before the incredible Kuma flashback—it raised questions about why they were included at all, highlighting the seasonal model as the most organic solution to this problem.

Fans will not miss this final breath of One Piece filler content, as the anime now focuses on moving forward. In the Final Saga, the discourse surrounding every episode suggests fans rarely need a full recap of the previous week’s events. However, as the lore of future Elbaph Arc episodes will undoubtedly send viewers’ heads spinning, it will be interesting to see if the anime slows its pacing to let audiences process what they see. After all, Elbaph is tied to multiple key players in One Piece’s massive story and serves as the first true battleground of its greatest heroes and villains.

One Piece Is All Killer, No Filler In 2026

Despite reasonable nostalgia for some genuinely entertaining original episodes, One Piece’s anime has made a triumphant return in 2026, bringing incredible adventures and discoveries without the filler. The Elbaph Arc has been going great, providing enough space for tantalizing moments of mystery across 26-episode seasons. While fans may miss the weekly promise of new episodes, the results speak for themselves: the series is sustainably well-animated and focuses intently on telling Oda’s story.

One Piece is in no danger of ending too soon in the anime, though. Between gearing up for One Piece: Heroines’ adaptation, more of the live-action series, and a newly-recreated East Blue Saga from WIT Studio, every project running lately is focused on their source material and not overstaying their welcomes. One Piece fans will look back fondly on some filler episodes, which will always be available for a rewatch. But from here on out, it seems smooth sailing for the Straw Hats.
