Strengthening U.S.-Malta Relations on Malta’s Independence Day

On behalf of the United States of America, I extend our heartfelt congratulations to the people of Malta as you commemorate the anniversary of your independence.

The U.S.-Malta partnership continues to yield significant results. This year, Malta formally joined the Artemis Accords as the 65th signatory, reinforcing our shared commitment to advancing space exploration and international collaboration. Bilateral trade reached $2.6 billion in 2025, reflecting strong economic ties and growing opportunities for American businesses in Malta. Additionally, our security cooperation has deepened through Malta’s participation in the Registry Information Sharing Compact, a critical mechanism for enhancing maritime security and combating sanctions evasion.

Educational and cultural exchanges between our nations have also expanded, including advanced professional development programs, new Fulbright research initiatives, and increased opportunities for academic collaboration. These efforts further strengthen the bonds between the people of our two countries. The United States remains committed to fostering practical cooperation that promotes security, prosperity, and mutual understanding for both Americans and Maltese citizens.
