Nigel Farage has announced Helen Jenner as the new leader of Reform in Wales, replacing Dan Thomas following his arrest on suspicion of assault and controlling or coercive behaviour.
Speaking on the steps of the Senedd in Cardiff on Monday, Farage said, “I’ve known Helen for many, many years. She is a determined campaigner.”
Farage expressed sorrow over former leader Thomas’s “personal difficulties,” but noted that it had become untenable for him to continue in his role. “We could have done without this bump in the road,” he remarked.
Jenner, who previously served as Thomas’s deputy while also acting as the Senedd member for Bangor Conwy Môn, described her election as Reform Wales leader as a profound honour.
The leadership vote was conducted by Reform’s 33 Senedd members on Monday morning, during which Jenner’s colleague Jason O’Connell reportedly challenged her for the position—though his candidacy was not initially expected.
Speaking to reporters outside the Senedd, Farage confirmed that a vote to elect a new Welsh deputy leader to replace Jenner would take place on Tuesday.
