Atletico Madrid respond after Jose Mourinho targets match officials

After Sunday’s 2–1 derby victory, Atletico Madrid issued a sharp response to Jose Mourinho’s scathing criticism of the match officials.

During his post-match press conference, the Real Madrid manager produced printed images of two incidents involving Atletico players, insisting that both deserved direct red cards. He accused the officiating team of lacking the authority to control major fixtures and questioned their integrity.

Hours later, Los Colchoneros responded on social media with a video of a printer producing an image of Mourinho holding his printouts. The clip carried the bold message “Stop referee harassment now”, directly challenging the manager’s campaign against officials.

Although possible red-card decisions dominated the post-match debate, Los Colchoneros delivered a disciplined tactical performance that neutralised Real Madrid throughout the 90 minutes.

Atletico’s defensive resilience at home was further highlighted by Vinicius Junior’s scoreless run at the Metropolitano Stadium, which extended to nine consecutive matches as the hosts curtailed Real’s attacking threat.

The victory earned Atletico three vital points and moved them to second place in the LaLiga table behind leaders Barcelona. Real Madrid, meanwhile, are fourth heading into the international break and will look to address their concerns when domestic competition resumes.
