La Liga president Javier Tebas has dismissed suggestions of a refereeing conspiracy targeting Real Madrid, calling the claim indicative of “living in another galaxy.”
Jose Mourinho accused the match officials of making decisive errors after Real Madrid lost 2-1 to rivals Atletico Madrid last week.
At the post-match press conference, Mourinho presented printed screenshots and argued that two first-half incidents should have resulted in Atletico players being sent off.
Responding to a Spanish media report that alleged a conspiracy against Real, Tebas rejected the claim.
“Claiming that referees are directed against Real Madrid is living in another galaxy,” Tebas said on social media.
“That narrative serves as an excuse to cover up other shortcomings that are plain to see in these first matches of the season.
“It is more comfortable to point to a conspiracy than to explain what is happening on the pitch.”
Real Madrid are fourth in La Liga, six points behind leaders Barcelona, who have collected 21 points from seven victories this season.
After the defeat to Atletico, in which Real were reduced to 10 men when defender Dean Huijsen was sent off during a tense encounter, Mourinho once again singled out the officiating.
“We can skip the press conference because the story of the match is right here,” Mourinho said while showing reporters the printed images.
“Those were two clear red cards. Given the difficulties we faced playing 11 against 10, we can only imagine what 50 minutes of 11 against nine would have been like.”
Tebas has clashed with Real Madrid and president Florentino Perez in the past, including over the clubs’ plans to join the proposed European Super League in 2021.
In 2025, he said Real Madrid had “lost their head” after the club formally complained to the Spanish FA about refereeing in La Liga.
