Mikel Arteta agrees new Arsenal deal with substantial pay rise

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has agreed a new contract that secures his long-term future at the club and includes a substantial pay rise, according to reports.

The Spanish coach guided Arsenal to their first Premier League title in 22 years last season, while the team also finished as runners-up in the Champions League and Carabao Cup.

BBC Sport reports that an agreement is now in place for Arteta to remain at Arsenal, although the length of the new deal has not been disclosed.

Speculation that Arteta would extend his stay at the Emirates Stadium has circulated for some time, and the reported agreement could pave the way for an official announcement.

“They [the fans] don’t have to worry about any of that because I want to be here. I’m extremely happy and I feel very grateful to work with the people I work with,” Arteta recently said when asked about his future, according to BBC Sport.

Arteta’s record and impact at Arsenal

Joining Arsenal marked Arteta’s first opportunity as a senior manager after developing as part of Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff at Manchester City.

The 44-year-old won the FA Cup in his debut season. Although progress was uneven in the following campaigns, his long-term project gradually took shape.

By the 2022/23 season, Arsenal had returned to the Champions League after a lengthy absence and re-established themselves as serious title contenders.

After three consecutive second-place finishes, Arsenal finally won the league last term while also coming close to securing two further trophies.

Arsenal supporters will welcome the news that Arteta intends to continue his work at the club. His success has strengthened his reputation, and he would likely attract interest from other leading European sides if a vacancy emerged.

Arteta’s playing career also gives him links to Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, although neither club currently has a managerial opening.
