Rey Pegasus has been crowned the new CMLL Mexican National Middleweight Champion, dethroning Guerrero Maya Jr. during the CMLL Noche de Campeones event. Pegasus overcame Maya Jr. at Friday’s event held at Arena Mexico in Mexico City to claim the coveted title.
The match concluded with Pegasus striking Maya Jr. with a Slingshot Moonsault to secure the pinfall and capture the championship. A highlight clip from the bout is available below.
This victory marks Pegasus’ first reign with the championship, bringing an end to Guerrero Maya Jr.’s historic run of 1,212 days. Maya Jr. initially captured the vacant title against Rugido at CMLL Super Viernes on June 2nd, 2023. His reign ranks as the third-longest in history, surpassed only by El Santo’s two reigns, which spanned 2,400 days (September 1956 to April 1963) and 1,453 days (June 1963 to June 1967).
