Daboll Dismisses Personal Narrative Ahead of Matchup With Former Team

Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Brian Daboll will square off against the New York Giants on Sunday, the organization that dismissed him following the 2023 season. However, Daboll insists the reunion carries no extra emotional weight.

Hired as New York’s head coach in 2022 and relieved of his duties a year later, Daboll stated he can compartmentalize any lingering sentiment and remain focused solely on his current responsibilities.

“I’ve faced a lot of former teams before,” Daboll said. “It’s a one-week season every week, so you’ve got to put everything you have into it. You have to prepare for the scheme, new coordinators on their end, and different players. As simple as it sounds, that is the reality every week in the National Football League. I have a tremendous amount of respect for the people in that organization. I am very grateful for the opportunity the Mara and Tisch families gave me. From top to bottom, there are really good people in that building. But the priority is getting our players ready for the game. I’ve been on several teams that played my former clubs before, but the focus remains entirely on our locker room.”

Daboll also dismissed the notion that his familiarity with the Giants’ personnel provides a strategic edge, pointing out that New York’s roster has undergone significant turnover since his departure. He is approaching Sunday’s contest with the same routine preparation he applies to any opponent.
