Despite their off-field turbulence, Leicestershire offered stubborn resistance, forcing the contest into an eighth session before finally succumbing.
Resuming on 55 for three, the visitors suffered an immediate setback when Chris Woakes dismissed overnight dangerman Sol Budinger for 47, the batter adding just four to his score. Operating from around the wicket, Woakes produced an unplayable delivery that angled back from outside off stump to clip the top of middle.
Two balls later in his next over, Woakes struck again, inducing an edge from Jonny Tattersall that Rob Yates pouched safely at second slip. Hamza Bamber then entered the fray, claiming the prized scalp of Ben Cox — Leicestershire’s first-innings top-scorer — caught behind by Sam Hain at first slip.
Bamber struck a decisive blow four overs later when Will Young plucked a stunning one-handed catch high to his left at third slip to dismiss Ben Green. Captain Ian Holland and Tommy Scriven steadied the ship with a 35-run stand before Holland fell lbw to Warwickshire skipper Ed Barnard.
The ninth-wicket partnership added a further 22 runs, delaying lunch by half an hour, but India Test spinner Manav Suthar broke through with a vicious turning delivery that uprooted Ajaz Patel’s off stump. Leicestershire battled gamely to extend the fight into the afternoon, yet Scriven fell cruelly one run shy of a well-deserved half-century, clean bowled by Bamber to spark jubilant celebrations at Edgbaston.
