India encountered a scheduling clash in September 2026 when the home ODI series against the West Indies coincided with the Asian Games cricket tournament in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The continental event ran from September 24 to October 3, while the ODI series commenced on September 27 in Thiruvananthapuram.
With several senior players committed to the Asian Games squad, they were unavailable for the domestic ODI leg. Shreyas Iyer, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, and Ishan Kishan all featured in the Asian Games setup, creating opportunities for others to earn national recognition.
