Lufthansa Flight Diverted to Lyon Following Power Bank Fire Onboard

A Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to Lisbon was diverted to Lyon on Saturday after a passenger’s power bank battery caught fire on board the Airbus A321-200, which had 198 passengers aboard. The crew immediately secured the battery in a protective bag designed for lithium batteries, and no injuries were reported.

The pilot diverted to Lyon as a precaution, and the aircraft landed without incident. Passengers resumed their journey on Sunday after an overnight stay in a hotel.

“The safety of our passengers and crews remains Lufthansa’s top priority at all times,” the airline said. Lufthansa has banned the use and charging of external batteries on flights since January, although passengers are permitted to carry up to two power banks in the cabin subject to specific safety conditions.
