Israel Strips Dutch Envoys of Diplomatic Immunity in Ramallah

Israel announced on Sunday that it is revoking the diplomatic status of Dutch envoys stationed in Ramallah, who represent the Netherlands to the Palestinian Authority, as a countermeasure to Dutch sanctions aimed at Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.

Earlier this month, Israel ordered the shutdown of the British consulate in East Jerusalem — Britain’s liaison with the Palestinian Authority — after the UK imposed comparable sanctions prohibiting imports from settlements.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar stated on social media that Dutch diplomats working in Ramallah must surrender their Israeli‑issued diplomatic credentials within seven days, when their privileges and immunities are set to lapse.
