TEHRAN — Iranian state media reported on Monday that no new talks with the United States are forthcoming, contradicting remarks made by US President Donald Trump, who indicated earlier that negotiations would resume soon.

Iran’s mission in New York, attending the UN General Assembly, has “no plans for negotiations with the United States,” according to the official IRNA news agency, which cited an unnamed source familiar with the delegation’s position.

Trump’s comments came during an Axios interview on Sunday, one day after he dismissed a Tehran proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within a seven-day timeframe.
