WWE Hall of Famer D‑Von Dudley calls Zelina Vega each September 11 to honor her father’s memory

During a recent interview, WWE Hall of Famer D‑Von Dudley explained why he makes a point of calling Zelina Vega every year on September 11.

The anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks remains one of the darkest dates in American history. In the aftermath of the tragedy, many events were canceled or postponed. WWE, however, chose to move forward with the September 13, 2001 episode of SmackDown, turning the show into a tribute to those who lost their lives while sending a message of resilience.

Years later, Vega joined WWE, carrying a deeply personal connection to that date. Her father, Michael Trinidad, was among those who died in the September 11 attacks. Vega has spoken openly about her loss over the years and continues to honor her father publicly each anniversary.

One person who has made sure Vega knows she isn’t alone is D‑Von Dudley.

In a recent YouTube video, the WWE Hall of Famer said he began calling Vega each September 11 after learning about the tragedy that took her father. D‑Von noted that Vega was just a baby when she lost her father, and his own experience as a father makes the story especially difficult for him to contemplate.

“When I found out that her father had passed away on September 11th, I made in a duty from that point on… to give her a call and let her know that I was thinking about her and her family and that my prayers and thoughts go out to them.

“I’m feeling it now, because I can’t imagine what she went through. She was a baby. Now I got three little ones, to know that they will never see their father again. The man that provided, that took care of them, that was their rock, is no longer here because of some radical idiots out there that decided to do what they did, that broke my heart.”
